The S range of iPhones usually see the spec of the smartphone upgraded but the handset itself stay pretty much the same as the previous model. In the case of the iPhone 5S that’s also expected to be true with the exception of one new feature: a fingerprint scanner. There have been rumors about an embedded scanner in an iPhone for a while now, with Apple’s acquisition of AuthenTec back in 2012 originally kicking them off. But the iPhone 5S seems to be the first handset expected to ship with one, and a new internal component leak suggests it is going to sit to the left of the home button.Image credit: Nowhereelse.frThe leaked images come via French website Nowhereelse.fr. They show some of the internal components mounted in the rear frame of the iPhone 5S. They are also shown next to the current layout of the iPhone 5. The key part is a redesigned metal spacer cushion underneath the home button. It has a new cut out section, which suggests space has been made to allow for a new component to fit. That component being the fingerprint scanner. It certainly makes sense to position the scanner there as it’s where your thumb or finger is used to being when pushing the home button. However, you have to wonder how Apple has gone about integrating it without detracting from the overall look of the iPhone. Have they managed to hide it completely behind the casing color?
